Crime and social deviance have existed alongside humanity and social life since their inception, making them a subject of study across various disciplines. Religious teachings have also addressed the causes of crime and effective ways to combat it. Muslim thinkers, drawing from religious teachings and their lived social experiences, have offered insights on this matter. The Supreme Leader, as a religious intellectual with extensive experience in executive positions and leadership of the Islamic community, has also expressed his views on crime and deviance.
This study examines the criminological perspectives of the Supreme Leader. The research follows a descriptive-analytical method, with data collected through library research and references to his official statements and publications.
Findings indicate that, in his view, key individual factors contributing to crime and deviance include illicit earnings, lack of adherence to justice, exaggeration of minor offenses and trivialization of major ones, superficial or emotional religious beliefs, lust and materialism, distrust in the system, stubbornness, gradual moral decline, lack of self-discipline, detachment from God, and arrogance.
He also identifies major social factors influencing crime, such as the encouragement of crime and criminals, neglect of family structure, improper gender interactions in society and the workplace, cultural deviation, failure to recognize cultural shifts, lack of strategic cultural planning, consumerism and excessive fashion trends among women and society, poor governance, unemployment, poverty, misuse of wealth and power, discrimination, class disparities due to corruption, misleading media propaganda, and the weakening of law enforcement.
